These wonderful slides belonging to Geoff M show Circular Quay and the Sydney CBD. But we weren’t sure when they were taken until some of our Facebook followers pointed our that the Cahill Express way was open in early 1950s. We were also informed that the large wool store located where Gold House and AMP buildings are now located were not demolished until 1959. So we estimate this is from some time in 1950 or 1959.

Many people commented on how much Smog there was in the air. Turns out that Sydney had many smoke stacks and that burning coal or rubbish was very common. Leaded petrol didn’t help either.

Thanks again to Geoff M for permission to share these photos and to all our Facebook followers for your comments and help.
